Together with HMS Hood she was sent to hunt down the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. After the sinking of the Hood on 24.05.1941 the already seriously damaged Prince of Wales fired some salvo's at Bismarck before withdrawing. The Bismark suffered damage to her steering system making her partly un-manoeuvrable.
